    The kinetics and mechanism of the formation of phthalate mono-esters and phthalate di-esters from phthalic anhydride and a variety of mono- and di-hydric alcohols are reported and discussed. The kinetic work is extended to a mechanistic study of the same reactions using titanium tetra-n-butoxide and tri-n-butyltin ethoxide as catalysts. The results support a mechanism involving alkoxy ligand exchange at the metal as a crucial step in the catalysis.

    A heat shrinkable film or multilayered film comprising at least one layer comprising an EVOH (A) having an average ethylene content of 20 to 60 mol% and an areal shrinkage when immersed in hot water at 90°C for 1 minute of at least 10% and having thermal characteristics satisfying the following condition (i) 1 ≦ |T(1) - T(2)} - t(1) - t(2)}| ≦ 20   (i) wherein 1 ≦ |t(1) - T(1)| ≦ 20 in the case of T(1) = T(2) and t(1) = t(2) and wherein T(1) and T(2) represent peak temperature (°C) on the highest temperature side and lowest temperature side respectively in differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement of said EVOH (A) and t(1) and t(2) peak temperatures originating from T(1) and T(2), respectively, in DSC measurement of said EVOH having been treated with an alkaline solvent.

    The present invention provides a multilayered pellet having a core-shell structure, wherein the core of the core-shell structure is made of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin composition (A), and the shell of the core-shell structure is made of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin composition (B). The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin composition (A) constituting the multilayered pellet contains any one of (i) to (iii): (i) an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (a) and a modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (b); (ii) a modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (b); and (iii) an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (a) and a plasticizer (d). The modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (b) is preferably a modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having a predetermined unit or a modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer obtained by reacting the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (a) and a monovalent epoxy compound (c) having a molecular weight of not greater than 500. Difference of the heat sealing temperature (TA) of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin composition (A) and the heat sealing temperature (TB) of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition (B) is in the range of 3 °C to 100°C.

A polymer having a halogen-containing repeating unit is prepared that contains about 0.005 to about 65 phr of a stabilizer having the general formula TGOT′, where each T is independently selected from R—, R—CO—, —P(R) 2 , —P(OR) 2 , —Si(R) 3 , or —Si(OR) 3 , T′ is T or A[GOT] n , each A is independently selected from LS—Sn(R) 3-q (SLJ) q , L—O—Sn(R) (OLJ) q , (CH 2 ) p S—Sn(R) 3-q (S(CH 2 ) p —J) q , LCO 2 Sn(R) 3-q (OLCO—J) q , or LSn(Y) 3-q (LJ) q when n is 0, from CO, E, CO—E—CO, Si(R) 2 , Si(OR) 2 , (Si(R) 2 G) r , (CO—E—CO—G) r , (CO—G) r , or (E—G) r when n is 1, and from P, PO, and trimellitate when n is 2, Y is —SLJ, —SLOR, —OLJ, —OLR, —S(CH 2 ) p —J, —S(CH 2 ) p R, OLCO—J, or OLCOOR, G is (O—CH 2 —R′CH) m , J is O—(CH 2 CR′HO)T, L is CO(CH 2 ) p , each R is independently selected from R′, aralkyl from C 6 to C 12 , and alkaryl from C 6 to C 12 , each R′ is independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl from C 1 to C 12 , and aryl from C 6 to C 12 , E is alkylene from C 1 to C 12 , aralkylene from C 6 to C 12 , alkarylene from C 6 to C 12 , arylene from C 6 to C 12 , m is 1 to 20, n is 0 to 2, p is 0 to 10, q is 0 to 3, and r is 1 to 20.
