    The disclosure relates to biocompatible components useful for forming compositions for use as medical/surgical synthetic adhesives and sealants. Biocompatible components of the present disclosure may include a polymeric polyol core, which may be treated with a nitroaryl compound to form a nitro ester. The resulting nitro ester groups may be reduced to form amino groups which, in turn, may be treated to form isocyanate groups. The resulting isocyanate may then be reacted with a second component to form adhesive and/or sealant compositions.

    A mono-component toner powder composition which exhibits reduced sensitivity to machine conditions and provides copies whose images are sharply defined having substantially reduced backgrounding and good image density. The composition comprises a plurality of discrete particles each comprising a thermoplastic binder, a magnetically responsive material and carbon black, in which: (a) the binder comprises from 40 to 70 weight percent of the composition and is selected from the group consisting of (i) polyester resins, (ii) copolymers of styrene monomers and at least one monomer selected from acrylate and methacrylate monomers, (iii) a wax component having a melting point in the range of from 45 to 150°C, and (iv) a blend of the wax component and a thermoplastic organic resin, in which the weight ratio of the wax component to the thermoplastic organic resin is in the range of from 1:0.1 to 1:1; (b) the magnetically responsive material comprises from 30 to 60 weight percent of the composition, the magnetically responsive material being dispersed in the binder; (c) from 0.05 to 2 weight percent of the composition of a fluorine-modified alkyl siloxane dispersed in the binder, and (d) the carbon black comprises from 0.005 to 0.3 weight percent of the composition and is attached to the exterior surface of the particles thereof.

    The present invention comprises novel single-functional and mixtures of multi-functional oligomeric performance additive compounds having one or more components of Structure A (The definitions of R, Z1, Z2, Z3, A1, A2, A3 and y are given in the Summary Section), their uses and polymeric compounds and compositions containing them which have enhanced oxidative stabilities, enhanced ultraviolet (UV) and light stabilities and/or enhanced flame retardance. An example is the bis sulfonic acid bispotassium salt reaction product from an oligomeric caprolactone diol (TONE® 260), 2-sulfobenzoic acid anhydride and potassium carbonate, and use of this product, at levels up to about 3.0%, in a general purpose bisphenol A polycarbonate resin, to enhance the fire resistance or flame retardance of the polycarbonate resin.

    The invention provides a method of manufacturing polyesters which comprises an esterifying step wherein a dicarboxylic acid and a dihydroxyl compound are esterified and the next liquid phase polycondensation step wherein the resulting ester is subjected to liquid phase polycondensation in the presence of a polycondensation catalyst while a distillate which contains an reacted dihydroxyl compound and the polycondensation catalyst is distilled, wherein the distillate is subjected to a purification treatment comprising: (a) a distilling step; (b) a filtering step; and (c) a decoloring step and then the thus purified distillate is recovered and supplied to the esterifying step. A further method comprises a purification treatment comprising: (a) a distilling step; (b) a depolymerizing step; and (c) a decoloring step.

    Instant application provides thermoplastic polyurethane compositions comprising one or more thermoplastic polyurethanes A) one or more acrylate based rubbers B), and one or more UV and/or heat stabilizers C), wherein the thermoplastic polyurethane composition of A) + B) + C) has a greater UV stability as compared to a thermoplastic polyurethane composition of A) + C), wherein (a.) UV stability is measured as the difference between (1.) Delta E versus white tile after molded, and (2.) Delta E versus white tile after 1000 hours of QUV (b.) increasing stability is indicated by minimization of the difference between (1.) and (2.). More particularly, the instant application provides thermoplastic polyurethane composition comprising one or more thermoplastic polyurethanes A) comprising the reaction product of (i) polyetherols and (ii) aromatic isocyanates, one or more acrylate based rubbers B) having a core comprised of a partially crosslinked C1-6 alkylacrylate and a shell comprised of a C1-6 alkylmethacrylate, and one or more UV and/or heat stabilizers C) comprising an active ingredient which is 2-(2-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert-amyl-phenyl)-2H-benzotriazole, 1,6-hexanediylbis(3-benzotriazol-N-yl)-4-hydroxy-5-tert-butyl) phenyl propionate, and mixtures thereof, wherein the resulting thermoplastic polyurethane composition of A) + B) + C) has a 50% greater UV stability than thermoplastic polyurethane composition of A) + C), when (a.) UV stability is measured as the difference between (1.) Delta E versus white tile after molded and (2.) Delta E versus white tile after 1000 hours of QUV, and (b.) increasing stability is indicated by minimization of the difference between (1.) and (2.). The application further provides a process of making molded thermoplastic polyurethane articles using the aforementioned thermoplastic polyurethane compositions.
