series of new chiral moleculartweezers, di‐(R,R)‐1‐[10‐(1‐hydroxy‐2,2,2‐trifluoroethyl)‐9‐anthryl]‐2,2,2‐trifluoroethyl phthalate (2), isophthalate (3) and terephthalate (4), were synthesized and their structure studied by NMR and molecular mechanics. alpha,alpha'-Bis(trifluoromethyl)-9,10-anthracenedimethanol was prepared by a one pot stereoselective doable reduction in good yield and excellent enantiomeric excess. We examined the association with ortho- and meta-benzenedimethanol showing bidentate complexes stable enough to be studied by low temperature NMR. Preparation, structural and conformational study of cyclobis[(R,R)-α,α′-bis(trifluoromethyl)-9,10-anthracenedimethylsulphite]
The macrocycle cyclobis[(R,R)-alpha,alpha'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-9,10-anthracenedimethylsulphite) has been prepared and the two possible arrangements have been identified and are described. A conformational study was carried out using NMR and molecular modelling techniques and X-ray diffraction analysis has allowed full assignment of the crystal structure. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd.
