The migration of the 5-alkyl groups of 2,3-dimethyl-5-alkyl-6-benzofuranyl methyl ketones by aluminum chloride was studied further, and an analogous migration was observed in the cases of methyl 2,3-dimethyl-5-alkyl-6-benzofurancarboxylates.
