Abstract The reaction of tetraphenyldiphosphine with NiCl 2 and Pd(PhCN) 2 Cl 2 was investigated. Aquo or alcohol complexes of nickel(II) chloride afforded Ni(PPh 2 H) 4 whereas anhydrous NiCl 2 in aromatic solvents facilitated the decomposition of the diphosphine into triphenylphosphine and diphenylphosphine. Pd(PhCN) 2 Cl 2 gave rise to Pd(Ph 2 P-PPh 2 )Cl 2 .
