Synthesis of spin labelled chromone 4a is described from paramagnetic acid derivatives 1a, 1b by the conventional BakerVenkataraman procedure. Different hydroxylated paramagnetic chromone derivatives 8, 9, 12a, and 12b could be obtained by different one-pot reactions and a glycoside of 5-hydroxy-2-(1-oxyl2,5-dihydro-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-1H-pyrrol-3-yl) chromone radical 14b was synthesized.
