  Cyclohexylbiphenyle der allgemeinen Formel (I) worin R1 eine Alkylgruppe mit 1 - 12 C-Atomen und R2 eine gegebenenfalls perfluorierte Alkyl-,Alkoxy- oder Alkanoyloxygruppe mit 1 - 12 C-Atomen bedeutet, bilden flüssigkristalline Mesophasen in einem sehr breiten Temperaturbereich. Sie sind daher als den Anwendungsbereich flüssigkristalliner Dielektrika für elektrooptische Anzeigeelemente verbreiternde Komponenten geeignet, wobei die Viskosität derartiger Dielektrika durch einen Zusatz einer oder mehrerer Verbindungen der Formel (I) nicht nachteilig beeinflußt wird.
