SYNTHESIS, EPR, AND ELECTRONIC SPECTRAL STUDIES ON Cr(III) AND Mn(II) COMPLEXES OF SOME OXIMES

Cr(III) and Mn(II) complexes of some oximes (H2L), 2-hydroxyacetophonone oxime [haoH(2)], 2-hydroxynaptlialdehyde oxime [hnoH(2)] and salicylaldehyde oxime [salH(2)] have been synthesised and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic moment, infrared, electronic and EPR spectral studies. The Mn(II) complexes, Mn(HL)(2), show a magnetic moment corresponding to three unpaired electrons and their electronic spectral bands are characteristic of that of square planar geometry. Whereas, the Cr(III) complexes, Cr(HL)(3), also show a magnetic moment corresponding to three unpaired electrons. The electronic and EPR spectral studies suggest an octahedral geometry for the Cr(III) complexes.
