  The spermidine alkaloids (+)-(2S)-dihydromyricoidine (5) and (+)-(2S)-myricoidine (4) were synthesized under asymmetric conditions. The synthetic compounds 4 and 5 were found to have positive [alpha](D)(21) values in both cases, which agrees with those of the natural alkaloids. Therefore the absolute configuration of the natural products are (2S)-configurated and not (2R)- as reported in the literature. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
