  Photoinduced intramolecular electron transfer in 3-benzylazaprop-1-enes is inhibited by N-acetyl or N-carbomethoxy protecting groups: fluorescence is then observed from the arene chromophore and intramolecular meta photocycloaddition occurs to give the linear azatriquinane system with high selectivity.
