A simple method for the asymmetric alpha-oxybenzoylation of aldehydes is presented. Treatment of a series of aldehydes with benzoyl peroxide in the presence of a MacMillan imidazolidinone leads directly to the alpha-oxybenzoylated product with excellent levels of asymmetric induction.
