    An improved copolyester fiber capable of being dyed with cationic dyes and having an excellent brightness, heat resistance and a satisfactory mechanical strength comprises a copolyester resin comprising a polymerization product of at least one aromatic dicarboxylic acid compound, at least one alkylene diol compound and at least one quaternary phosphonium organic sulfonate of the formula (I): wherein A = an aromatic or aliphatic radical, XI = H or an ester-forming organic radical, X2 = an ester-forming organic radical, R1, R2, R3 and R4 = an alkyl or aryl radical, n = 1 or more, and having an [η]f of 0.5 or more, the copolyester fiber having a silk factor of 25 or more and exhibiting the number of scission of backbone chains of the copolyester molecules of 140 x 1023 or less per 106 g of fiber when wet heat-treated in a solution of 0.4 g/I of acetic acid in distilled water at 130°C for 60 minutes.

    A polyether-ester block copolymer, and filaments formed therefrom, having an enhanced thermal stability of the elastic property thereof and a satisfactory dyeing property, comprises a polymerization product of (A) an acid component comprising as a major ingredient, terephthalic acid, (B) a phosphonium sulfate component comprising a compound of the formula (I): wherein Z1 = tri- or more valent aromatic or aliphatic group, A1 = ester-forming group, A2 = H or ester-forming group, R1, R2, R3, R4 = alkyl or aryl radical and n = a positive integer, (C) a polymeric glycol component comprising a polyoxyalkylene glycol having an MW of 400 to 6000 and (D) a monomeric glycol component comprising, as a major ingredient, 1,4-butane diol, in which copolymer the component (B) is in an amount of from 0.1 to 5 molar% based on the molar amount of the component (A) and the component (C) is in an amount of from 50 to 80% by weight based on the total weight of the copolymer, and which copolymer has a limiting viscosity number of 1.2 or more, a melting point of 160°C or more, and a 1/2 crystallization time of 10 seconds or less.

    This invention relates to an aromatic polyester film and a method for producing the same. An aromatic polyester film having reduced surface defects and a high thickness uniformity can be produced by using an aromatic polyester material containing 0.1 to 45 mmol % of a quaternary phosphonium sulfate based on the difunctional carboxylic acid component and having an a.c. volume resistivity of 6.5 x 108Ω.cm or less in a state of molten film, and giving an electric charge to a molten film in noncontact manner in the vicinity of a rotatory cooling drum to establish close contact of the film with the drum.

    A cationic dye-dyeable polyester resin composition comprising a polyalkylene terephthalate containing metal sulfonate groups and a melt viscosity depressant, selected from the group of particular bisphenol ethers or pyromelistic acid-bis (N-alkyl-imides). Addition of the melt viscosity depressant to the polyester resin reduces the melt viscosity without decreasing the intrinsic viscosity of the resin thereby making it melt-spinnable. A cationic dye-dyeable polyester fiber with high strength can be obtained from the polyester resin composition.

    A new melt viscosity depressant for a polyester resin having a structure of an aromatic carbonyl compound is disclosed. Addition of the melt viscosity depressant to a polyester resin reduces the melt viscosity of the resin remarkably, thereby facilitating mold processing and melt-spinning of the polyester resin composition, from which high strength polyester molding products and polyester fibers can be obtained.
