    Disclosed is A gas barrier film comprising a substrate film and a barrier layer containing an organic region and an inorganic region on the substrate film, in which, when the organic region is provided on one surface of the gas barrier film, the outermost layer on the side with the organic region is an adhesive layer, or when the organic regions are provided on both surfaces of the gas barrier film, at least one outermost layer of the gas barrier film is an adhesive layer. The gas barrier film is capable of simplifying the working process with it and keeping its good gas-barrier property.

    Coating compositions comprising a polyfunctional monomer of a mono or polypentaerythritol poly(meth)acrylate, a bifunctional (meth)acrylate having specific monomer structure, an additional (meth)acrylate containing not more than 2 (meth)acryloyloxy groups, a phosphoric acid ester and an ethanolamine all blended together in a suitable organic solvent system together with a photosensitizer are disclosed. The compositions provide a scratch-resistant, hard cross-linked film surface that is dyeable and resists static and fogging to a synthetic resin article, such as polymethyl methacrylate, to which they are applied.

    A coating composition for the preparation of synthetic resin shaped articles excellent in abrasion resistance and weatherability is described. This composition comprises (a) a polyfunctional monomer composition comprising (i) 40-100 wt.% of a polyfunctional monomer containing at least three methacryloyloxy or acryloyloxy groups in the molecule and having a MW of not higher than about 900 and (ii) 0-60 wt.% of a mono- or bi-functional monomer having one or two methacryloyloxy or acryloyloxy groups in the molecule and having a MW of not higher than about 300 per methacryloyloxy or acryloyloxy group, (b) 5-35 parts by wt., based on 100 wt. parts of the monomer composition, of at least one ultraviolet absorber, (c) 0.5-8 wt. parts, based on 100 parts by wt. of the monomer composition, of at least one polymeric material selected from polymers of alkyl methacrylates and alkyl acrylates, and (d) 0.01-6 parts by wt., based on 100 parts by wt. of the monomer composition, of a photosensitizer. The coating composition is coated on a synthetic resin shaped article and then, irradiated with ultraviolet rays in an inert gas or air to form a cross-linked coating film having a thickness of 1 to 30 microns.

    Method and apparatus for the surface-hardening treatment of a synthetic resin shaped article is provided, wherein the shaped article is dipped in a surface-hardening solution; the shaped article is gradually pulled up therefrom thereby to be coated with the surface-hardening solution; and the coated article is irradiated with ultraviolet rays to cure the coating. The shaped article (22) is dipped in succession in a washing tank (8), a drying tank (7) having warm water or an organic solvent and a hardening solution tank (6) while the shaped article (22) is conveyed by a first conveyor (1), and then, the shaped article (22) is transferred from the first conveyor (1) through an intermediate conveyor (2) to a second conveyor (3) whereby the shaped article (22) is conveyed to an ultraviolet ray-curing step (15). The shaped article (22) is introduced to and withdrawn from the respective steps in the state where the shaped article is hung on a hanger (4, 5), and one or a plurality of hangers are attached to each of a plurality of portions of the first conveyor (1) so that the shaped articles (22) are simultaneously subjected to the dipping treatment in the respective tanks, whereas the hangers are conveyed one by one from the intermediate conveyor (2) to the second conveyor (3) where the shaped articles (22) are separately hung. In each of the tanks (6, 7, 8), organic solvent and the hardening solution tank (6), the liquid is overflowed therefrom and circulated via a filter (33, 32, 31) to each tank. The surface-hardening treatment is carried out under such conditions that the hardening solution and the atmosphere above the hardening solution tank (6) are maintained at room temperature and the dew point of said atmosphere is maintained at least 3°C lower than the temperature of the hardening solution.
