    Monomers, polymers and copolymers are provided that incorporate at least one naturally occurring phenolic compound, such as a plant phenol, as well as methods for producing the monomers and polymers. Plant phenols possessing a reactive group in addition to the phenolic group, such as a double bond, aldehyde, ester, alcohol or carboxylic acid, are particularly useful. Plant phenols can be isolated from a plant material, or chemically or enzymatically synthesized.

    The present invention relates to aluminate coupling agents, their synthesis and appliations. metallic aluminum is reacted with lower alcohols, then reacted with selected longer chain alcohols, phenols, carboxylic acids etc., satisfied the coordination num- bel of aluminum to give aluminate coupling agents having good hydrolytic stability and lower associativity. They can be used directly as typical coupling agents in processing of composition products such as plastics, rubber, coatings and laminates etc., and as adhesive promoter or primer to treat fillers, pigments and various materials in order to improve the processing and the quality of products, to increase the dosage of filler, to develop new products, to reduce energy consuming and cost of products.

    A process for preparing hydrophobic polyols that includes reacting A) a mixture having an OH content of from 180 to 300 mg KOH/g, a viscosity at 23° C. of from 5000 to 20 000 mPas and an OH functionality of from 2.8 to 4.5 including from 5 to 20 wt. % of 3-pentadecadienylphenol, from 5 to 10 wt. % of 3-pentadecadienyl-recorcinol and from 1 to 5 wt. % of 2-methyl 3-pentadecadienylrecorcinol; with B) alkylene oxides (AO) with addition of the AO monomers onto the AO-reactive groups of component A); the ratio of the amounts of A) to B) being from 1:9 to 9:1; where the hydrophobic polyols have an OH number of from 140 to 220 mg KOH/g and a viscosity at 23° C. of from 1000 to 4000 mPas. The hydrophobic polyols can be used in polyurethane systems, in coatings, adhesive bonds, sealants or moulding compounds, which can be used to coat substrates.
