Herein, a facile and environmentally friendly oxidative coupling reaction to obtain unsymmetrical disulfide compounds, without using metal or organic dyes as photocatalyst and only using a catalytic amount of iodine, was developed. Oxygen is used as oxidant in the reaction and the substrate scope is wide. A gram-scale synthesis also highlights the synthetic practicality of this photochemical strategy
method for the synthesis of unsymmetrical disulfides is reported. Using sodium sulfites and 2-mercaptobenzo heterocyclic compounds as startingmaterials, the unsymmetrical sulfur–sulfur bonds could be quickly constructed in the PPh3/I2 reaction system under transition–metal-free conditions. This protocol has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, easily available startingmaterials, and wide substrate

An active radiation curable ink composition is disclosed. The ink composition includes a compound having a persulfide bond, at least one end of the persulfide bond being bonded to a ring structure directly or via a carbonyl group or a thiocarbonyl group; one or more radical polymerizable compounds; and a photopolymerization initiator.
