  [NEt4][Rh(cod)η5-7,8-C2B9H9Me2)] (cod = cyclo-octa-1,5-diene) in THF with [CPh3][BF4] affords the complex [Rh(1–3 : 5,6-η5-C8H11)(η5-7,8-C2B9H9Me2)], the structure of which has been established by X-ray diffraction. The nido-7,8-C2B9H9Me2 ligand is attached to the rhodium in the usual pentahapto manner, while the cyclo-octadienyl C8H11 group ligates the metal centre in a 1–3 : 5,6-η5 bonding mode. The

  In this work, the reaction of the 16-electron species [Rh(eta(3)-C8H13)(eta(5)-C(2)B(9)H(9)Me(2))] with PPh(3) was investigated and the product, [exo-nido-Rh(PPh(3))(2)(eta(5)-C(2)B(9)H(10)Me(2))], which is in an equilibrium with the close analogue was characterized by P-31 H-1}, H-1, C-13 and B-11 NMR spectroscopy. A mechanism for the complex formation is suggested which is related to,the previously reported reactions between the 16-electron complex and PR(3) (R = Me and Et) ligands.
