3,4-tetrahydroxanthylium heterocyclic system displaying absorption within the near-infrared were synthesized. The photochemical behaviour of these molecules was evaluated in dichloromethane, regarding their ground state absorption properties, fluorescence emission quantum yields and fluorescence lifetimes determinations.
