  Novel compounds of formula (I), being intermediates for the manufacture of ACE inhibitors of formula (II); wherein R is lower alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms or phenyl, R1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, R2 is lower alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms or lower alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms with attached amino or substituted amino group, and Z is amino acid or its derivative. Novel method for preparation of compounds of formula (I) and formula (II) and preparation of lisinopril in high diastereomeric selectivity. Compound of formula (I) is prepared either by reaction of compound of formula (IV), wherein Y is hydroxy group, R1 is lower alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms and R, R2 are as above with 2,2'-dithio bis[benzthiazol]-(2)] of formula (V), or reaction of compound of formula (IV); wherein Y is halogen and R,R1,R2 are same as previous compound of formula (IV) with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole of formula (VI).
