  The chiral auxiliaries derived from threitol are particularly well designed to form chelated complexes with Lewis acids. The diastereoselective Diels-Alder addition to cyclopentadiene is the consequence of a roof shaped semirigid conformation, as demonstrated by various structural models of the auxiliaries.
