Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), and Co(III) complexes of furan-2-aldehyde thiosemicarbazone (HL) have been synthesized and are characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, UV-Vis, IR, (1)H NMR and EPR spectra. The molar conductivities show that all of the complexes are non-electrolytes. The IR spectra suggest coordination of the thiosemicarbazone to the metal through azomethine nitrogen and thiolate sulfur atoms. The furan oxygen appears not to be coordinated in all complexes. The complexes have the formulas Cu(2)L(2)Cl(2), NiL(2), ZnL(2) and CoL(3) where L corresponds to the anionic thiosemicarbazone.
