    A process for the preparation of urethane resins, which comprises the steps of reacting a silicon compound having one organic group (I) having one primary amino, acryloyl, epoxy or mercapto group in the group and at least one hydrolyzable group bonded to the silicon atom with an organic compound having an organic group (II) reactive with the organic group (I) to prepare a silicon compound (product A) having a secondary amino or hydroxyl group, reacting a polyol compound with a polyisocyanate compound to prepare a urethane prepolymer (product B) containing terminal NCO groups in an amount of 4 % or below, and reacting the product A with the product B in proportions of at least 0.5 equivalent of the product A per free NCO group of the product B; and resin compositions containing the urethane resins prepared by the process. The process can readily give urethane resins which exhibit excellent storage stability and are enhanced in the degrees of freedom of physical properties of products of curing.

    An infrared cut-off layer containing an ITO powder is formed on one surface of a base film, to form an infrared cut-off film. The ITO powder has a minimum value of a diffused-reflection-functional logarithm, logf(Rd), at a light wavelength of 470 nm or lower, which logarithm is measured on the basis of the following equation, f(Rd)=(1- Rd)2/2Rd=α/S (Rd: a relative reflectance to a standard sample, α: an absorption coefficient, S: a scattering coefficient), formulated for a diffused reflection light, and the minimum value of - 0.1 or less. There is provided an infrared cut-off film having a hue of blue and sufficient transparency.

    The present invention provides thermo-expansive microspheres comprising thermoplastic resinous shell and a blowing agent, which is a fluorine-containing C2-10 compound of ether structure free of chlorine and bromine atoms and gasified at a temperature not higher than the softening point of the thermoplastic resin, being encapsulated in the shell wall; and the production and application processes thereof. The thermo-expansive microspheres have an average particle size ranging from 1 to 100 µm and a coefficient of variation (CV), of particle size distribution being 30 % or less. The thermo-expansive microspheres have low environmental loading and superior flame-retardation or flame-resistance, and have particle sizes distributing in narrow ranges. Those thermo-expansive microspheres and expanded thermo-expansive microspheres are suitable for applying to fire-proof paints, flame-retardant or flame-resistant thermo-insulating materials, flame-retardant or flame-resistant lightweight fillers, and flame-retardant or flame-resistant lightweight molded products, in addition to the conventional application field.

    The method produces heat-expandable microspheres, which comprise a shell of thermoplastic resin and a non-fluorine blowing agent encapsulated therein having a boiling point not higher than the softening point of the thermoplastic resin, and comprises a step of dispersing an oily mixture containing a polymerizable component, the blowing agent, and a polymerization initiator containing a peroxydicarbonate in an aqueous dispersing medium to polymerize the polymerizable component contained in the oily mixture. The resultant heat-expandable microspheres have a shell which is less apt to become thinner than its theoretical value, contain minimum amount of resin particle inside their shell, and have excellent heat-expanding performance.
