The organic electroluminescent element has low driving voltage, high luminous efficiency, and excellent durability. Provided are a polycyclic compound of a compound having such a structure that two benzene rings bond to a central benzene ring each other to form a fused ring and another fused ring bonds to a terminal thereof, and an organic electroluminescence device including one or more organic thin film layers containing a light emitting layer between a cathode and an anode, in which at least one of the organic thin film layers includes the polycyclic compound of the present invention.
