  The complex {[Au-2(dien)(2)][BF4](2)}(n) (dien = diethylenetriamine) has been synthesised and characterised by IR and NMR spectroscopy; the crystal structure of its ethanol solvate revealed that the molecular cation has a 16-atom ring structure and an interesting polymeric structure based on weak gold-gold contacts which extends infinitely in the (111) direction.
