    A flame retardant rubber composition includes (A) an ethylene/α-olefin random copolymer, (B) an unsaturated nitrile/conjugated diene rubber, and (D) surface-treated natural magnesium hydroxide or includes (A) an ethylene/α-olefin random copolymer, (B) an unsaturated nitrile/conjugated diene rubber, (C) a hydrogenated diene polymer, and (D) surface-treated natural magnesium hydroxide. Since the rubber composition and rubber product have good flame retardance, weather resistance, and oil resistance, as well as excellent mechanical characteristics, they are useful for various applications such as a roll, belt, and sealing material for copying machines, an electric wire coating material, and hoses.

    The present invention provides polymers having any one of properties including affinity for metals or polar resins, impact resistance, mar resistance, heat resistance, rigidity, oil resistance, transparency, anti-fogging properties, electric insulating properties, high breakdown voltage, coating properties, low-temperature flexibility, moldability, environmental degradation, fluidity and dispersibility, and provides a process for preparation thereof. The olefin block copolymers (A-1) of the invention are represented by the formula (I) PO 1 —g 1 —B 1 (I) (wherein PO 1 is a segment composed of repeating units derived from an olefin having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, g 1 is an ester, ether, amide, imide, urethane, urea, silylether or carbonyl linkage, and B 1 is a segment containing an unsaturated hydrocarbon or a hetero atom). The olefin block copolymers are suitable for uses in adhesives; various molded articles such as construction and civil engineering materials, automobile interior and exterior materials, gasoline tanks, electric and electronic parts, medical care and sanitation materials, materials of miscellaneous goods, resin materials having environmental degradation properties, films and sheets; modifiers and dispersions.

    A chlorinated rubber having a chlorine content of about 5 through about 50% by weight and a Mooney viscosity (ML1+4at 100°C) of about 20 through about 150 is presented. This chlorinated rubber is derived from the chlorination of (i) a copolymer rubber of ethylene and 1-butene having a mol ratio of ethylene/1-butene of about 85/15 through about 95/5 or (ii) a copolymer rubber of ethylene 1-butene and 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene having a mol ratio of ethylene/1-butene of about 85/15 through about 95/5 and a content of the 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene of 20% by weight or less based on the weight of the copolymer. The incorporation of the chlorinated rubber into a polyvinyl chlorid composition results in the remarkable improvement of the impact resistance and flexibility, both at a low temperature, of the polyvinyl chloride.

    An ethylene-alpha-olefin-polyene random copolymer rubber comprising ethylene, an alpha-olefin having 3 to 10 carbon atoms and a ployene,wherein (A)a molar ratio of ethylene/al-p-ha-olefin is 55/45 to 95/5, (B) the polyene is a mixture of 5- ethyitdene-2-norbornene (ENB) and 5-vinyl-2-norbornene (VNB) in a molar ratio of ENB/VNB of 1/1 to 20/1, (C) an iodine value of the copolymer rubber is 2 to 40, (D) an intrinsic viscosity [η] of the copolymer rubber is 1.0 to 6.0 dl/g measured in decalin at 135°C, and (E) gη* defined by a ratio of the intrinsic viscosity [η] to an intrinsic viscosity [η]I of a linear ethylene-propylene random copolymer having an ethylene content of 70 mole% and the same weight-average molecular weight determined by a light-scattering method as that of the copolymer rubber is 0.2 to 0.9. Also a process for preparing this random copolymer rubber and vulcanizate derived from the same are also disclosed. This random copolymer rubber has an excellent extrudability and a fast cure rate and provides a vulcanizate having high tensile strength.

    A chlorinated rubber having a chlorine content of 10 to 45% by weight based on the weight of the chlorinated rubber and a Mooney viscosity, ML1-4 (121°C), of 10 to 190 is obtained by chlorinating an ethylene/alpha-olefin/non conjugated diene copolymer rubber containing 5-vinyl-2-norbornene as the non-conjugated diene. The chlorinated rubber has excellent processability in roll milling, extrusion, etc.
