  Double-helical ruthenium complexes of 2,':6',2 '':6 '',2''': 6''',2'''-quinquepyridine (qpy) are prepared from RuCl3 . xH(2)O and qpy and the crystal structure of [Ru-2(qpy)(2)(C2O4)][CF3SO3](2) . 6H(2)O determined; chemical and electrochemical oxidations of [Ru-2(qpy)(2)(H2O)(2)](4+) in aqueous solution generate high-valent oxoruthenium complexes of qpy, which are powerful oxidants.
