Metathetic reactions of (R3P)(2)PtH(CH3CN)(+) and PW12O403- yield [(R3P)(2)PtH(CH3CN)](3)PW12O40 (R = Ph, Et). Thermal desolvation of solid [(Ph3P)(2)PtH(CH3CN)](3)PW12O40 yields [(Ph3P)(2)PtH](3)PW12O40 which is thought to contain interstitial (Ph3P)(2)PtH+ ions, Quantitative loss of acetonitrile from [(Et3P)(2)PtH(CH3CN)](3)PW12O40 at 180 degrees C produces a material containing (Et3P)(2)PtH+ and (Et3P)(3)Pt-2-(mu-PEt2)(mu-H)Et+. Although the crystals lack permanent channels, exposure to (CH3CN)-C-13 vapor leads to extensive isotopic exchange. This is proposed to result from chemical microporosity of the solid.
