(Phosphanylalkyl/aryl)cyclopentadienyl complexes have been synthesised from lithiated 1,2,3,4-tetramethyl-5(2-P,P-dialkyl/arylphosphinoethyl)cyclopentadiene and [RhCl(CO)2]2; the electron donating properties of these ligands have been compared and the PâRh interaction is shown to be stable under methanol carbonylation reaction conditions.
