  Herbicidal compounds of formula (I): x is 0-2; R is C₁-C₃ primary alkyl; R¹ is phenyl; phenyl mono-substituted with bromo, chloro, fluoro, C₁-C₃ alkyl, trifluoromethyl, tri­fluoromethoxy, or C₁-C₃ alkoxy; or phenyl disubstituted at the 2,4-, 2,6-, or 3,4-positions with bromo, chloro, or fluoro; R² is hydrogen or chloro; provided that x is 0 and R is methyl when R¹ is alkylphenyl or trifluoromethylphenyl; and R is methyl when R¹ is disubstituted phenyl are particularly useful in rice culture.
