  A family of hexaaza macrocyclic mononuclear terbium(III) complexes, together with the isostructural yttrium(III) species, is reported, where the coordination number is determined by the nitrate or isothiocyanate anions. A detailed optical characterization for the terbium(III) complexes was performed, considering the temperature dependence of their luminescent properties.
