Two new isoquinoline alkaloids, named fumaranine (2) and fumarostrejdine (10), along with 18 known alkaloids were isolated from aerial parts of Fumaria officinalis. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses and by comparison with literature data. The absolute configuration of the new compound 2 was determined by comparing its circular dichroism

Fumaritridine and fumaritrine are not spirobenzylisoquinolines. Rather, they are indenobenzazepines so that fumaritridine is represented by expression and fumaritrine by . Treatment of dihydroparfumine () and dihydroparfumidine () uith trifluoroacetic anhydride folloued by quenching with methanol gives and , respectively.
Surprisingly, it was found that the administration of plant extracts is efficacious in the blockade of TRPV1 channels. In particular, plant extracts of Mangifera indica and/or Fumaria officinalis and/or Rumex japonicus are efficacious as skin irritation-reducing agent and as an antagonistic agent for TRPV1.

The dark yellow indenobenzazepine alkaloids lahorine () and lahoramine () have been found in Lam. (Fumariaceae). In a transformation with biogenetic implications, treatment of the spirobenzylisoquinolines dihydrofumariline () and dihydroparfumidine () with methanesulfonyl chloride and triethylamine in dry THF, followed by iodine oxidation, provided and , respectively.
