Highly selective lithium ion transport and extraction with crowned alkyl phosphoric acid

A series of benzo-14-crown-4 derivatives (3a-3c) having an ionizable alkyl phosphoric acid moiety as an additional binding site were synthesized. From the results of transport and extraction experiments, it is revealed that 3c exhibited a drastic enhancement in Li+ ion transport rate and extractability when compared with the corresponding hydroxymethyl derivative.
