Complexation of copper(II), platinum(II,III) and palladium(II) with 5,5′-diphenylthiohydantoin in organic and alkaline-water-organic media

The interaction of 5,5'-diphenylthiohydantoin (dpthn) with copper(II), platinum(II) and palladium(II) was studied in different media resulting in the formation of different complex species and different coordination modes of the ligand depending on the solvent. Conditions were found for stabilizing the oxidation states copper(II) and platinum(III) with the reducing ligand dpthn. On the basis of IR, EPR and magnetochemical data the coordination mode of the ligand and possible structures of the complexes are proposed.
