    The invention is directed to various alkylaryl phosphite compositions that ideally are suitable for use as secondary antioxidants in polymers. In one aspect, the phosphite composition comprises a tris(monoalkylaryl)phosphite in an amount from 51 to 95 weight percent; and at least one of: a bis(monoalkylaryl)dialkylaryl phosphite; a bis(dialkylaryl)monoalkylaryl phosphite; and a tris(dialkylaryl) phosphite. The inventive phosphite composition is a solid at ambient conditions. The invention also relates to alkylate compositions and processes for forming such alkylate compositions and such phosphite compositions.

    An aromatic polycarbonate composition stabilized by adding to an aromatic polycarbonate substantially free from chlorine atoms trace amounts of at least one compound selected from among mono- and diesters of phosphorous acid and at least one compound selected from among phenolic antioxidants, triesters of phosphorous acid and organic phosphonites. This composition not only gives a molded article excellent in hot water and steam resistances but also is characterized in that it is substantially free from coloration even in recycle molding so that it has high industrial availability.

    Disclosed herein is an aromatic polycarbonate resin containing benzophenone and benzoate ester derivatives which have a molecular weight less than 1,000, each in an amount of 100 ppm or less. Also disclosed is a process for preparing an aromatic polycarbonate resin from an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a carbonate diester in which the benzophenone derivative content is 100 ppm or less by transesterification, comprising preparing a polycarbonate prepolymer having a viscosity average molecular weight of 5,000 to 20,000 using an iminocarboxylic acid or salt thereof as a transesterification catalyst and polymerizing the prepolymer in an extruder. Phosphoric acid mono- or diesters, phosphorous acid diesters or phosphorous acid are optionally added as stabilizers during the preparation process. The aromatic polycarbonate is colorless and transparent and is suitable for extrusion molding.

    An aromatic polycarbonate resin composition having hydroxyl groups as end groups is thermally stable and also offers excellent resistance to hydrolysis. The polycarbonate resin composition incorporates (A) an aromatic polycarbonate resin containing hydroxyl groups in the proportion of 5% or more of the total end groups and a metal impurity and (B) a deactivating agent selected from the group consisting of phosphorous acid, a thioether compound, a phosphite diester and a nitrogen-containing organic compound. The amount deactivating agent is based on the amount of metal impurity in (A) and the type of deactivating agent.
