  Synthesis of acyl-5,8-quinolinediols using sunlight was investigated. Photo-Friedel-Crafts acylation of quinoline-5,8-dione and aldehyde afforded the corresponding 6-acyl-5,8-quinolinediols regioselectively in moderate to good yields.
