Synthesis, Characterization, and Crystal Structure of Two Coordination Polymer Material with Rigid Tetracarboxylate and Chelating N-Donor Coligand

Two new metal-organic frameworks, [Mn(aobtc))(0.5)(phen)(2)center dot 2H(2)O center dot H(2)hb] (1) and [Cu(phen)(2)Cl center dot H(3)DDA center dot H2O center dot HAC] (2) (H(4)aobtc = azoxybenzene-3,3',4,4'-tetracarboxylic acid, H(4)DDA = 4,4'-diazenediyldiphthalic acid, H(2)hb = p-hydroxybenzoic acid and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), have been synthesized and characterized by IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 exhibits interesting 1D chain structure containing dinuclear Mn subunits, which is further extended into 3D supramolecular double chain via pi-pi interactions and hydrogen-bonding interactions. Compound 2 has a monomer with [Mn(phen)(2)Cl](+) unit. The structural analysis reveals that the assistant ligand has critical effect on the construction of the complexes.
