    Magnetic study of the U1−xLaxAl4 system
    摘要:
    The magnetic properties of the U1-xLaxAl4 system were investigated in the 4-600 K temperature range and fields up to 7 T. The UAl4 compound shows a magnetic behaviour typical for a spin fluctuations system. The U1-xLaxAl4 systems present Curie-Weiss type behaviour for x less than or equal to 0.6 and above a certain temperature T*. The negative paramagnetic Curie temperatures and the effective magnetic moment values indicate the presence of spin fluctuations. For x greater than or equal to 0.8 a temperature-independent susceptibility is observed. As the lanthanum content increases from x=0 to 0.6 the effective magnetic moment per uranium atom remains constant. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

    Abstract A new uranium compound, UV2Al20, is reported. This CeCr2Al20-type structure compound (a=14.4775(5) A) exhibits a large interatomic U-U distance, du-u=6.34 A, well beyond the Hill limit.   • Magnetic and Electrical Properties in NpAl<sub>4</sub> and UAl<sub>4</sub>

    We grew high-quality single crystals of NpAl4. together with UAl4, by the Al-flux method and measured the electrical resistivity. specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, magnetization and de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) effect. NpAl4 is an antiferromagnet with the Neel temperature T-N = 49 K. The corresponding magnetic moment is most likely directed along the [010] direction in the orthorhornbic crystal structure. The large magnetic entropy at T-N and the Curie-Weiss behavior suggest the localized nature of 5f-electrons with the 5f(4) configuration. The detected dHvA frequencies in NpAl4 are small, indicating that the small magnetic Brillouin zone is formed in the antiferromagnetic state. On the other hand, the large Fermi surfaces are observed in a paramagnet UAl4. The detected cyclotron mass is relatively large, ranging from 3.4 to 23 m(0), which is consistent with the electronic specific heat coefficient gamma = 89 mJ/(K-2.mol).
