(EN) This invention relates to polymer compositions containing naphtalenedicarboxylic acid residues and having reduced fluorescence due to the presence of aromatic thioether compounds. More specifically, the polymer compositions contain poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate) and 0.1 to 5 mole percent of an aromatic thioether compound. The polymers are useful for packaging applications where clarity and/or aesthetic appeal is important.(FR) Cette invention se rapporte à des compositions polymères contenant des restes d'acide naphtalènedicarboxylique et présentant une fluorescence réduite grâce à la présence de composés de thioéthers aromatiques. Plus spécifiquement, les compositions polymères contiennent un poly(éthylène 2,6-naphtalène dicarboxylate) et 0,1 à 5 % en moles d'un composé de thioéther aromatique. An Efficient Synthesis of Naphthyl Alkyl and Aryl Sulfides by the Reaction of Naphthols with Alkane- and Arenethiols
The reaction of 1- and 2-naphthols 1 and 2 with a variety of thiols 3 in the presence of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid afforded naphthyl alkyl and aryl sulfides 4 and 5, respectively, in good yields. Similarly naphthyl bis(alkyl) or bis(aryl) sulfides 10-13 were prepared from the corresponding dihydroynaphthalenes 6-9.
