Water-soluble gold(III/I) N-heterocylic carbenecomplexes behave as efficient catalysts for the hydration of terminal alkynes in neat water. The transformation proceeds in the absence of Brønsted acids or halide scavengers and is suitable for sensitive substrates. Kinetic profiles and DFT studies provide a clear picture of intermediates present during catalysis.

The catalytic hyperpolarisation of pyridine, 3-hydroxypyridine and oxazol by the Signal Amplification By Reversible Exchange (SABRE) process is achieved by a series of water soluble iridium phosphine and N-heterocyclic carbene dihydride complexes.
The facile synthesis of functionalized luminescent nanoparticles from LnL3 lanthanide complexes is described. The luminescence properties of the lanthanide chelates and of the corresponding nanohybrids are reported and compared. For a further application in bioimaging, the cytotoxicity of the nano-objects was investigated.
