wherein R² has the same meaning as defined above, in an alkylene glycol solvent corresponding to said alkylene oxide in the presence of at least one catalyst selected from the group consisting of bromides of alkali metals, iodides of alkali metals, bromides of alkaline earth metals, and iodides of alkaline earth metals.
