  Carbonyl compounds having asymmetric carbon center at β position and phenylthio group on γ carbon were produced by the reaction of optically active 2-hydroxyalkyl phenyl sulfides with enol silyl ethers in the presence of Lewis acid through “chiral episulfonium ions”.
