    Disclosed is a process for preparing a diaryl oxalate which comprises the step of transesterifying a dialkyl oxalate or/and an alkylaryl oxalate with an aryl alcohol in the presence of a tetra(aryloxy)titanium as a catalyst, wherein the tetra(aryloxy)titanium is fed into a reaction system of the transesterification as an aryl alcohol solution of the tetra(aryloxy)titanium which is prepared by reacting a tetraalkoxy titanium and an excess amount of the aryl alcohol and removing a by-producing alkyl alcohol.

    To produce an aromatic polycarbonate excellent in physical properties and hue by a simplified step as compared with a conventional one. A process for producing an aromatic polycarbonate, which comprises the following steps (1) to (3): (1) a step of reacting phenol with acetone in the presence of an acid catalyst to convert part of the phenol into bisphenol A, to obtain a bisphenol A/phenol composition, (2) a step of supplying the bisphenol A/phenol composition held in a molten state in a liquid form to an aromatic polycarbonate production step, and (3) a step of reacting the bisphenol A and a carbonate material to produce an aromatic polycarbonate.

    An improved copolyester fiber capable of being dyed with cationic dyes and having an excellent brightness, heat resistance and a satisfactory mechanical strength comprises a copolyester resin comprising a polymerization product of at least one aromatic dicarboxylic acid compound, at least one alkylene diol compound and at least one quaternary phosphonium organic sulfonate of the formula (I): wherein A = an aromatic or aliphatic radical, XI = H or an ester-forming organic radical, X2 = an ester-forming organic radical, R1, R2, R3 and R4 = an alkyl or aryl radical, n = 1 or more, and having an [η]f of 0.5 or more, the copolyester fiber having a silk factor of 25 or more and exhibiting the number of scission of backbone chains of the copolyester molecules of 140 x 1023 or less per 106 g of fiber when wet heat-treated in a solution of 0.4 g/I of acetic acid in distilled water at 130°C for 60 minutes.
