    Thermotropic liquid crystalline aromatic polyesters comprise: (a) units derived from one or more dicarboxylic aromatic acids of the formula: HOOC-Ar₁-O-Ar₂-COOH      (1) in which: Ar₁    is a divalent aromatic radical consisting of one ring, or of a plurality of condensed, partially codensed or non condensed rings, containing from 6 to 18 carbon atoms, and which may be substituted Ar₂    is a divalent aromatic radical consisting of a plurality of condensed, partially condensed or non-condensed rings, containing from 12 to 18 (b) units derived from one or more aromatic diols of the formula: HO-Ar₃-OH      (2) in which Ar₃    is a divalent aromatic radical consisting of one ring, or of a plurality of condensed, partially condensed or non-condensed rings, containing from 6 to 18 carbon atoms, and which may be substituted and if desired, units derived from one or more other aromatic diacids and/or hydroxy acids of the formulae: (c)      HOOC-Ar₃-COOH      (3) (in which Ar₃ is as defined above), and (d)      HO-Ar₃-(CH=CH)n-COOH      (4) (in which Ar₃ is as defined above and n is 0 or 1).

    The present invention relates to a block copolymer having at least one block having an acid group and at least one block having substantially no acid group, wherein one end group of a repeating unit in at least one block of all blocks is oxygen and/or sulfur, and at least one repeating unit of a block having substantially no acid group contains a halogen atom. The block copolymer of the present invention gives a polymer electrolyte membrane which is excellent not only in heat resistance and proton conductivity but also in water resistance and chemical stability, and is useful as an electrolyte for a proton conducting membrane etc. of a fuel cell.

    A polycarbonate resin composition, which exhibits not only an excellent balance among fluidity, rigidity, heat resistance, and impact resistance while maintaining flame retardance but also an excellent performance of recycling efficiency and a molded article thereof are provided. The polycarbonate resin composition contains a resin mixture of component (A) which is composed of (A-1) 10 to 100 mass % of an aromatic polycarbonate resin wherein dihydroxybiphenyl is used in a part of a divalent phenol as the raw material thereof and (A-2) 90 to 0 mass % of an aromatic polycarbonate resin other than the aromatic polycarbonate resin of component (A-1), and an amorphous styrene resin (B), in a mass ratio of component (A) to component (B) of 50:50 to 95:5. The molded article is an injection-molded article made of the polycarbonate resin composition.
