A novel approach to the trifluoromethylation of unactivated alkenes is presented. The hydrotrifluoromethylation of unactivated aliphatic alkenes and alkynes enabled by this EDA complex has also been developed. This hydrotrifluoromethylation protocol is operationally simple and promoted by a tertiary amine.
