    The present invention relates to an improved process for the preparation of 2-[6-methyl- 2-(4-methyl-phenyl)-imidazo [ 1,2-a]pyridin-3-yl] -acetic acid and further conversion of the said compound to tartarate salt of 6-methyl-2-[4-methylphenyl] imidazo [I, 2-a] pyridine- 3 -N, N-dimethyl acetamide [Zolpidem].

Further, disclosed is an organic electroluminescence device including an organic thin film formed of one or more layers including at least a light-emitting layer, the organic thin film layer being interposed between a pair of electrodes. In this organic electroluminescence device, at least one layer of the organic thin film contains the transition metal complex compound and has high luminous efficiency and emits blue light. In addition, disclosed is the transition metal complex compound enables to realize the organic electroluminescence device.
