  allyl aryl sulphones with 2-methylcyclopantenone and 2-bromomethylbenzo[b]thiophene or its furan analogue, followed by intramolecular Lewis acid catalysed cyclizations provided short stereoselective syntheses of 1,11-epithio and 1,11-epoxy steroids.
