Iron(III)-Promoted Oxidative Coupling of Naphthylamines: Synthetic and Mechanistic Investigations

A facile route to the synthesis of 1,1'-binaphthyl-4,4'-diamines (naphthidines) and 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-diamines (BINAMs) was developed by the oxidative homocoupling of 1- and 2-naphthylamines, respectively, using FeCl(3) as oxidant and K(2)CO(3) as base in 1,2-dichloroethane under ambient conditions. A preliminary mechanistic investigation was performed by the ESR spectroscopy and intermediate-trapping technique.

‐1,1’‐biaryls. Various 9‐(arylamino)aryl‐9H‐carbazoles could be synthesized from aryl(haloaryl)amines and 9H‐carbazole derivatives in high yields by the use of tBu‐XPhos. The amination of 4‐bromotoluene with a mixture of diphenylamine and 9H‐carbazole gave only 9‐o‐tolyl‐9H‐carbazole with tBu‐XPhos, while the use of PtBu3 or XPhos afforded the mixture of 9‐o‐tolyl‐9H‐carbazole and diphenyl(o‐tolyl)amine

Palladium-Catalyzed Aerobic Dehydrogenative Aromatization of Cyclohexanone Imines to Arylamines

Dehydrogenative aromatization of cyclohexanone imines to arylamines has been achieved using a palladium catalyst under aerobic conditions. The reaction is applicable to a variety of imines that are either preformed or generated in situ from cyclohexanone derivatives and aryl or alkylamines.
