    µ-ethynediyl-dipalladium complexes [X(R3P)2PdCCPd(PR3)2X]1(X = Cl or I, R = Et or Bu) react with aryl isocyanides R′NC(R′= Ph, 4-NO2C6H4, or 2,6-Me2C6H3) to give double-insertion products [X(R3P)2PdCCC(NR′)C(NR′)Pd(PR3)2X]2, selectively.     Heterodinuclear μ-ethynediyl complexes Cl(R3P)2MC≡CM′(PR3)2Cl (3) (M = Pt, M′ = Pd; R = Me, Et, n-Bu) were prepared by the reactions of chloroethynylbis(trialkylphosphine)platinum (1) with dichlorobis(trialkylphosphine)palladium (2) in the presence of CuCl catalyst. These complexes were fully characterized by mass, 13C1H}, and 31P1H} NMR spectroscopies.

    The reaction of mu-ethynediyl dipalladium complexes (1) with 2 equiv of phenyl isocyanide in the presence of trialkylphosphines results in the insertion of one molecule of the isocyanide into each of the two Pd-C bonds and produces a new complex Cl(R(3)P)(2)PdC(=NPh)C=CC(=NPh)Pd(PR(3))(2)Cl (3). Complex 3 was characterized by IR and mass, and H-1, C-13, and P-31 NMR spectra. No further insertion of the isocyanide into the Pd-C bonds of 3 was observed. The structure of CI(Et(3)P)(2)PdC(=NPh)C=CC(=NPh)Pd(PEt(3))(2)Cl (3a) has been established by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal data are as follows: space group P $$($) over bar 1, a = 32.840(3), b = 11.447(5), c = 9.069(2) Angstrom, alpha = 104.03(2)degrees, beta = 100.02(2)degrees, gamma = 105.76(3)degrees, V = 1202.7(7) Angstrom 3, and Z = 1.
