Abstract Palladium catalysed coupling of aryl halides with 3-methylbut-1-yn-3-ol and a subsequent base-induced retro-Favorsky reaction gave the corresponding ethynyl aromatics in good to excellent yields.
The cationic gold(I)/(R)-xyl-binap complex was shown to catalyze the atroposelective intramolecular hydroarylation of alkynones to produce enantioenriched axially chiral all-benzenoid biaryls, 4-aryl-2-naphthol derivatives, with up to 67 % ee. The reaction of a racemic alkynone in the presence of the same gold(I) catalyst also afforded the corresponding axially chiral all-benzenoid biaryl in excellent
Axiallychiral hydroxy carboxylic acid derivatives were successfully synthesized with high yields and ee values by the cationic rhodium(I)/axiallychiral biaryl bisphosphine complex-catalyzed enantioselective [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition. Axiallychiral hydroxy and dihydroxy carboxylic acid derivatives, bearing the aryl group at the ortho-position of the alkoxycarbonyl group, were also synthesized with
two-step route to axiallychiral biaryls is demonstrated. In a direct asymmetric cross-cyclotrimerization in the presence of a chiral cobalt(I) catalyst, axiallychiral biaryls bearing phosphoryl moieties have been prepared, and through indirect evidence the authors have been able to clarify the origin of the stereochemical induction and the nature of the central intermediate in the catalytic cycle.
