    From a mixture of cis- and trans-Ru(SH)(2)(dppm)(2) (4), formed from reaction of H2S with trans-Ru(H)Cl(dppm)(2) (2), a crystal of cis-4 has been isolated and its structure determined by X-ray analysis. The mercapto protons are located within the centrosymmetric structure, although the S-atoms are partially disordered (S - H similar to 1.06 Angstrom). The thiolate complexes, trans-Ru(H)SR(dppm)(2) (R = Ph, 5a; C6F5, 5b), have been isolated from reaction of trans-2 with 1 equiv. of RSH. trans-Ru(H)SH(dppm)(2) (3) has been isolated from reaction of H2S with a mixture of cis- and trans-Ru(H)(2)(dppm)(2) (1).     Treatment of a suspension of cis-RuCl2(Ph2PCH2PPh2)(2) in ethanol or 2-propanol with a large excess of KOH leads, in a very clean reaction and in less than 2 min when ethanol is used, to the formation of cis/trans-RuH2(Ph2PCH2PPh2)(2) in yields of up to 90%. Similar treatment of the cis-dichloro complex with a small excess of KOH gives, over a longer period, trans-RuHCl(Ph2PCH2PPh2)(2) in 64% yield and this complex can, in turn, be converted under similar conditions into the cis/trans-dihydride in moderate yields. trans-RuCl2(Ph2PCH2Ph2)(2) is unreactive under these conditions.     The reaction of RuCOD(dppm)/sub 2/ (COD = cis,cis-1,5-cyclooctadiene, dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) with (RhCl(CO)/sub 2/)/sub 2/ affords Ru(CO)(COD)(dppm) and (RhCl(CO)dppm)/sub 2/ at room temperature after ligand exchange.     with HBF4 · Et2O gives [RuRhHCl(COD)-(dppm)2]BF4 (2), which has been shown to contain two chelating dppm ligands on ruthenium and a bridging hydride (RuH 2.08(7) Å; RhH 1.64(8) Å).
