  An advantageous one pot procedure for the synthesis of tetrahydro-1,4,3-oxathiazine 4,4-dioxides by dialkylation of readily available alpha,N-alkyl-or arylsulfonamide dianions with gaseous formaldehyde is reported. Stability and some reactions of these heterocycles are also described.
